Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is an important aspect of dental health. What you eat and drink can cause tooth decay. This is due to the sugar in the food or drink reacting with the bacteria in plaque to produce acid that is harmful to your teeth, damaging the enamel and leading to cavities.

The majority of us like sweet and sticky foods, but please be careful. Limit such product to once a week and after mealtimes. Try to reduce the quantity of sugary foods and choose sugar-free varieties. Drink water or milk as opposed to fizzy drinks or fruit juices. Our dentists can give you advice on how to reduce sugar intake to protect your teeth.

If you like to snack between mealtimes, choose foods that don’t contain sugar such as raw vegetables, nuts, cheese or breadsticks.

We recommend brushing your teeth at least twice a day, preferable before breakfast and last thing at night. Good oral hygiene is critical to looking after your teeth.

Our dentists will be very happy to discuss a healthy diet aimed at reducing tooth decay.
